School uniforms and school supplies
🎒 Together, we help children learn.
Every child deserves the chance to go to school and build a better future. In the Dominican Republic, a school uniform and school supplies are required to attend school.
❤️ Will you help?
For just € 105 / $ 110 you can give a child a complete school package for an entire school year.
This way, you help a child go to school, learn, and grow. Together, we give children the chance for a better future.
Why School Uniforms Are Necessary
Public schools in the Dominican Republic are free. Still, many children do not attend school. Every child is required to purchase their own school uniform, sportswear, and school supplies. Without these items, a child is not allowed to go to school.
A complete school package costs about €105. That is roughly 40% of an average monthly salary of €250. For many families in Puerto Plata, this is simply unaffordable.
What’s Included in a School Package?
For €105 (USD 110), a child receives everything needed for an entire school year:
- long trousers or skirt and sports shorts
- two polo shirts and a t-shirt
- three pairs of socks and underwear
- belt, shoes, and sports shoes
- backpack, notebooks, pens, pencils, eraser, sharpener, and ruler
- supplemented with donated items such as crayons, coloring books, stickers, soap, toothpaste, and a toothbrush
How We Ensure Your Donation Is Well Spent
We do not give cash to families. In August, we personally go with each child and a parent or guardian to the Tienda Jimenez store in Puerto Plata. Together, we buy the school uniform, sports uniform, and school supplies. This way, we can be sure that every donation is truly spent on the child.
Throughout the year, we also collect school supplies brought by tourists or purchased locally. We use these to supplement the packages if a child needs something extra.
Sponsors with a Connection
Some children have had a regular sponsor over the years. Are you in Puerto Plata and sponsoring a child? Then we can — always in consultation with the school — arrange a visit to the school so you can meet the child. This way, you can see with your own eyes what your contribution means.
Will you make a difference in a child's life?
For €105, a child receives a complete school uniform, sportswear, and all school supplies for an entire school year. Smaller amounts are also very welcome.
