Since 2010, the CEDEPANE Foundation (Centro de Desarrollo Integral para la Niñez Enmanuel) has been committed to supporting vulnerable children, young people, and families in San Pedro de Macorís and surrounding areas in the Dominican Republic.

The foundation mainly helps children growing up in poverty, who therefore have few opportunities to attend school or develop their talents. Some children do not have a birth certificate, making access to education even more difficult.

What does the foundation do?

CEDEPANE offers children and young people a safe place where they can learn, play, and develop. The foundation organizes various free activities and programs:

• Education and homework support: help with reading, writing, arithmetic, and other school subjects.

• Music lessons: children learn to play piano, guitar, and sing.

• Dance and culture: through traditional Dominican folk dance, children learn to know and appreciate their cultural background.

• Sports: taekwondo lessons that contribute to discipline, self-confidence, and personal development.

• Childcare: care for children of working mothers who do not have enough money to pay for childcare themselves.

• Practical support: where needed, children receive free meals, snacks, learning materials, and transportation.

More opportunities for a better future

CEDEPANE not only wants to provide children with education, but also to prepare them for an independent future. By learning new skills, young people have more opportunities for work and their own income.

Several former students now earn money with music, dance, or work in the tourism sector thanks to the skills they learned at the foundation.

What has CEDEPANE achieved?

The foundation started in 2010 with 73 children and, according to its own data, has now helped more than 600 children and young people.

In its presentation, CEDEPANE mentions that it supports over 100 children and young people, including 84 registered participants and about 50 children who receive additional help.

Why is this work important?

CEDEPANE gives children from poor families opportunities that are not self-evident for them. By combining education, culture, sports, childcare, and personal guidance, the foundation helps to reduce poverty and disadvantage.

The main goal is that every child, regardless of the financial situation at home, gets the chance to develop and build a better future.

The foundation is partly funded by donations from both within and outside the country. This allows the activities to remain free for families who desperately need this support.

Our local representative for this project is Daniel de Nocker from Racho ruta del KKO.

For €105, a child receives a complete school uniform, sportswear, and all school supplies for an entire school year. Smaller amounts are also very welcome.
